SARS - CoV-2 - Virus Identification by Remote Ultraviolet System (S-VIRUS)

Dear colleagues,

It is a pleasure announce that the research project:

"SARS - CoV-2 - Virus Identification by Remote Ultraviolet System (S-VIRUS)"

2021-2023

presented in 2020 by the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome Tor Vergata has win a financed in the aim of the grant program FISR:

"Fondo integrativo speciale per la ricerca (FISR) che finanzia “specifici interventi di particolare rilevanza strategica, indicati nel Programma Nazionale delle Ricerche (PNR) e nei suoi aggiornamenti per il raggiungimento degli obiettivi generali”

FISR is a grant program for specific actions of national strategic relevance and this one in 2020 is dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

It is a demonstration that an interdisciplinary cooperation between the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery and the Faculty of Engineering is fundamental to face emergencies.

The Principal Investigator of this project is Prof. Pasquale Gaudio.

The Senior Researchers involved are: Prof. Maurizio Divizia, Dr. Andrea Malizia.

The research Group is composed by: Dr. Riccardo Rossi, Dr. Mariachiara Carestia, Maurizio Anselmi, Ivan Wyss.

This project aims at evaluating the potentiality of optical techniques to detect the virus, focusing the attention on the Laser-Induced Fluorescence spectroscopy (LIF), starting from the previous work of our research group in this topic which has been carried out from the collaboration between the department of Industrial Engineering and the department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", and which brought to the publication of several works on scientific journals (Gabbarini V., Journal of Instrumentation, 2019; Carestia M., Optical Engineering, 2015, Carestia M, Fotonica AEIT, 2014).
